A nice surprise awaited me when I went to feed my Nannacara today!
At first I wondered why the dominant female, normally first to the food, wasn’t making an appearance. Then I noticed her just hanging around the exact same piece of wood. Her colouring and markings much more prominent. A flutter of excitement hit me when I realised that she was adorning breeding colours, and that she was most likely protecting her brood. She was!
Not wanting to disturb too much, I took some quick video and retreated. Have a look at the footage. Not sure how many eggs have been laid, but at a guess I would say between 50-100.
I’ll keep you posted on the developments…

I reckon most of the eggs will hatch. If the parents are good, then they generally do a good job of keeping the eggs well oxygenated, which stops them from dying and becoming mouldy.
If I can provide enough small foods in the beginning for the fry (baby fish), then most will grow quickly and survive. The biggest threat comes from the other fish in the aquarium that will see the little fish as a nice snack!
This blog open a very interesting world for me. How many eggs do you tihink have a chance to survive?
