It’s been quite some time since I changed water in this tank. Around about 6 months to be honest! And to make matters worse, the aquarium lighting was nearly never on.
Now in most cases that would just be a complete aquarium disaster. The plants die. The ammonia, and nitrites reach dangerous levels. The fish die.
So I guess I was fortunate this time. Or was I?
I am not by any means saying that this was a good way to maintain an aquarium, but it seriously did no harm. With limited/almost no feeding it’s more than possible to sustain life in 50 liters: 4 Nannacara anomala (and 2 guppys), java fern, and Cryptocoryne sp.
Directly after a small water change of about 15% and some truly appetising bloodworms, my Nannacara where feeling frisky.
Check out the short video showing some pre-mating rituals. Aren’t they cute!?
PS Even though no harm was done (other than a few dead plants), I’ll be giving this aquarium a lot more care and devotion from now on! :)
